This manga is set in the "syodou" club of the high school in Japan. The Syodou is the Japanese art of calligraphy, which was rooted in the Chinese one. All the children in Japan go through basic training of the syodou in the elementary school, but after that most of them have hardly any interest in it. It's like saying that the syodou is a niche art category in Japan. Is the syodou an insipid art? The author Kawai is successful in showing and proving the syodou is very profound, diversified and sometimes dynamic.
Maybe you can sare the process that The lead character "Yukari" ,who is the returnee boy from Canada, and heroine "Yuki" learn the logics, history and techniques of syodou by degrees.
A little bit of romance will make you smile. Yukari has a secret crush on Yuki, but Yuki regards him as a competition. The perception gap is at once funny and thrilling.
